Inhabitants of the SWTOR Universe are about to be part of a galaxy wide popularity contest. Yes the new reputation system is on its way. Set to launch with patch 1.7 the Galactic Reputation System will allow players to move up the reputation ranks with various familiar and new factions in SWTOR. An overview of the system was just released today, revealing some insights into how it will all work so let’s take a look at what we know so far.

Ranks

Each faction’s reputation track has six different ranks. As you advance in ranks the required amount of reputation points for the next rank will increase. The current ranks available are listed below.

-Outsider
-Newcomer
-Friend
-Hero
-Champion
-Legend

One of the major differences with the Galactic Reputation System when compared with similar systems of other games is that your reputation is bound to your legacy and not just the specific character completing the quests. This means that any reputation points you gain and ranks you unlock are applicable to all characters in that legacy, this includes the titles unlocked as well.

Earning Points

Of course the first question everyone is going to have is, how do I earn these points?  Currently for the factions that will be available at launch, reputation...

Every game in existence has a form of it’s own language, especially when it comes to MMO’s. SWTOR of course is no different and soon after launch had a host of it’s own acronyms and short forms constantly flying through general chat. For a new player seeing all this can be very confusing, and even veterans can forget what some of them mean. With that in mind let’s take a look at some of the lingo used in SWTOR today, and some of the more general terms you’ll find in all MMOs.

General

Mob- Generally a monster or any unfriendly NPC

Adds- Additional Mobs that attack you while you’re already engaged with enemies

Pat- Patrol, a wandering pack of enemies

Pull- When one member of the party uses an ability (usually ranged) to grab the agro of a pack of enemies and bring them back to the group

Agro- How much attention an enemy NPC has on a player. Tanks use this to keep the bad guys attacking them.

CC- Crowd Control, use of an ability that renders an enemy incapacitated for a period of time

Root/Snare- Not to be confused with CC, these abilities lock the target in place but they can still use all their other abilities

Slow- Self-explanatory, an ability that reduces enemy movement speed

Crit- A critical hit which does a great deal more damage than a regular...

Quite possible the only class to be more secretive and devious than the Sith Inquisitor is the Imperial Agent. These elite agents of the Empire use their expert skills stealth or long-range accuracy to strike crippling blows before the enemy knows what hit them. If their so great at what they do, why do they need a companion you may ask. Well, Ethan Hunt needed a team of specialists behind him to pull off those supposedly “Impossible” missions and the same can be said for the agent. Depending on the situation the right companion for the job will change, but as a ranged damage dealing/healer class the safe bet will be to go with one that complements this style, such as a ranged or melee tank. Ultimately the choice is up to you and you may find yourself drawn to a certain companion not because of their utility but because you enjoy having them around.

BioWare has announced that Game Update 1.7 will be coming to a server near you shortly. Two new and fairly large items will be making their debut in the patch. The first being the long awaited “something” that would be happening with Ilums ill-fated western ice shelf. The second big announcement is the introduction of the Galactic Reputation System, which will allow players to rise in rank among the galaxies various factions, presumably unlocking access too powerful items along the way. Galactic Reputation

Something all MMO players have become all too familiar with in other titles is making its way to SWTOR with update 1.7. Galactic Reputation will allow players to increase their standing with third party factions like the Gree or Voss and the big two, Republic and Empire.
