The convention marathon concluded today with a final showing of the Old Republic on the main stage of the Paramount Theatre at PAX Prime. The panel started out with a review of game info for those who haven't been keeping tabs, after which audience members were invited on-stage to play through the first encounter of the Eternity Vault. Even though there was no live feed of the event the coverage coming through twitter painted a hilarious picture as the raid ended in a wipe. The big reveal of the Panel was of course more details regarding open world PVP. Here's what we learned.

• Many neutral planets up for grabs with multiple control points (ie. bases, and turrets)
• Planet Ilum was the planet used as a reference
• If a faction takes control of planetary defences, bombing runs can be called in on opposing base
• Players will receive Valor and Mercenary points for participation. Mercenary points can be exchanged for the best PVP gear

Other big news out of the panel was the upcoming September Beta Weekends which start on September 2 (only six days!). It was also mentioned again that many more player invites will go out to people all over the globe. Although the show may have been a little short on new...

Since all of us Old Republic Fans have been looking forward so long, why not take a break and look back. More specifically, back at all the old games that have hoisted the Star Wars Banner. Each week two titles(good or bad), will be thrust into the spotlight again. Unfortunately I have not had the good fortune to play everyone of these gems, so if anyone has any war stories from the games covered, share them below.    Rogue Squadron, or Rogue Squadron 3D for the PC folks, burst onto the scene in 1998. It was developed in a joint venture between Lucas Arts and Factor 5 and was one of the first games to use the N64's expansion pack, increasing the resolution from 320x240 to a whopping 640x480. Some light has been shed on Operations and Warzones thanks to a new interview by DarthHater done during Gamescom.

Topics range from the role of puzzles in operations to queue restrictions and player collision in PVP. The final question also eluded to some new information being released on open-world PVP at PAX.

A few excerpts from the interview:

Are the encounters within Eternity Vault linear in progression where you have to defeat Encounter A before proceeding to Encounter B, and are there additional optional encounters?

There are optional encounters in the Eternity Vault, but the main path is linear. Some of it requires the group to split up to proceed to the next step. The Eternity Vault is semi-linear, if you will. 

Maybe this is a good point to clarify the whole lockout situation. If you haven't done any of The Eternity Vault and you want to join a group who is on the third major encounter in The Eternity Vault, you can join them. You wouldn't have done the first and second encounter, but you can join them for the third one.

 

On to Warzones... can you explain if or how player collision is used in Star Wars: The Old RepublicPvP?
