I’ve got to be honest; during the weeks leading up to E3 The Old Republic was receding farther from the forefront of my thoughts. Not a lot of new information was coming out and the hope of a 2011 release was fading away. Well, needless to say those doubts have been put to bed and SWTOR has come rocketing back into my thoughts in its own personal starship.

It’s been known for awhile that each player would be equipped with their own ship but during E3 some more details came out regarding their use and features. In terms of function, the ships will be a base of operations for players, housing your crew and even allowing other players to come in and hang out (Space Chess?).
Customization of the ship does appear to be an option. In an interview with Joystiq executive producer Rich Vogel says, “We haven't talked much about customization. And the reason we [haven't] is because we haven't really implemented a lot of those systems in the game yet.” When asked about space travel and how it would work, Vogel replied “Think of the map in Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2.” This of course means some sort of galaxy map in which players select a destination and hyperspace to it. It’s not a lot to go on but the info released relating to...
PVP has become a must have in any new MMO. It’s not enough for players to be able to battle NPC’s or complete quests, they want to test their mettle against each other. In World of Warcraft, battlegrounds and the arena are the options a player has. With The Old Republic it looks as though Warzones will initially be the sole source of PVP in the game; although in an interview with Joystiq, executive producer Rich Vogel did say that it is a “likely assumption” open PVP would probably be included.
Now that it is clear that a large scale team based PVP system is in the game; one has to wonder if an arena mode will be introduced. It was with that thought in mind that I went on a Google hunt to see what people thought of the idea.

From a few minutes of foraging through forums and blogs on The Old Republic it’s easy to see the divide between people who want Arenas and those who believe it will unbalance the game. To begin with, I will list a few of the reasons people think that they would make a welcome addition.
Their already a part of the lore: the coliseum on Geonosis and the Mandalorian arena’s would make great settings. A more intense experience: building strategies, a smaller scale, and each individual having a larger role adds to the rush of the match. It’s more Star Wars! Anything...
