The Sith Inquisitors mysterious nature is only matched by their mastery of the dark side of the force. This mastery has granted them great powers to improve not only their speed and increase the damage done by their lightsabre attacks, but also to harness the destructive power of lightning. You may be wondering why someone who can channel such powers would need a companion at all, but like other classes there are instances where even they need a helping hand. Depending on the situation the right companion for the job will change, but as a damage dealing/healer class the safe bet will be to go with one that complements this style, such as a ranged or melee tank. Ultimately the choice is up to you and you may find yourself drawn to a certain companion not because of their utility but because you enjoy having them around.
Companions provide many benefits for all classes in The Old Republic. Their primary function for most players is their role in combat. There’s a lot of galaxy out there and the Inquisitor can’t corrupt it all by himself. So what better way to ensure success than by having someone fight alongside you? Some companions can put out a tremendous amount of damage, helping players defeat their enemies more quickly. Other companions are extremely useful by taking aggro off the Sith Inquisitor and focusing the enemy's attention onto themselves. Companions can also go on missions for you to retrieve crafting materials or gifts. The best benefit of companions is that it allows the Sith Inquisitor to not waste time. Companions save time in two ways: by selling grey items from your inventory, so you don't have to travel back to town to find a vendor and by crafting items while you're out pushing the light side of the force. If you're feeling lonely, companions provide some interaction while onboard your personal ship. Some companions can also become romantically involved with the Sith Inquisitor, unfortunately not Khem Val.
As the Sith Inquisitor travels through the galaxy, he'll gather five companions as he levels. Each of these companions will be found on different worlds and will be equipped. However, you should make sure that each companion has the best up-to-date gear so they'll be better able to aid you in your fight to crush the Republic. You don't want your companion to have some ancient blaster pistol or armor that not even a jawa would bother to scavenge while looking at the business end of a light saber. Companions do not normally come equipped with ear pieces, helmets, or implants, so grab them as soon as possible.
Sith Inquisitors can only have one active companion with them, just like every other class in The Old Republic. The remainder of your companions will stay onboard your ship, presumably keeping themselves occupied with mindless busy work. Companions do not accompany players into warzones and will "desummon" if a group has more than three players as that companions count towards the cap limit of a party.
Tip: Don’t be afraid to hit ESC to leave a conversation if you’re making choices that anger your companion. If you’re willing to redo the conversation a few times, you can maximize your companion’s affection potential from that conversation.
The first companion to join your not so merry band of Sith is Khem Val. You pick him up early on during your stint on the origin planet Korriban. He’s a centuries old member of the ancient Dashade race and personally served as the powerful Sith Lord Tulak Hord’s companion. Oh, and he feeds on Jedi and Sith that he defeats in combat, becoming stronger in the process.
It’s no coincidence that the first companion the Inquisitor receives is also arguably the most useful one. Khem Val’s ability to provoke the enemy and keep their attention on him, while sustaining a good deal of damage make him an excellent partner to the Inquisitor.

Andronikos is the second companion you will pick up and is also on of the romance options for the Sith Inquisitor. A former pirate, Andronikos was famous for raiding both the Imperials and Republic Alike. Unfortunately for him his crew mutinied and now he’s left to his own devices.
Akin to the Republic Gunslinger, Revel is a long ranged damage dealer who wields dual blaster pistols. He’s a great choice for those looking to burn down MoBs quickly but if your looking for survivability, look elsewhere.

This former Jedi Padawan is the third member of the Sith Inquisitors entourage and is also another one of the romance options available. One of the more powerful padawans that the Jedi had, she comes from a long history of adept force users and will prove a valuable addition to the team.
Ashara takes the role of melee DPS and shares much in common with the Jedi Sentinel, included the dual lightsabres she wields. You may want to keep her on the ship during any heavy fighting though and opt for a more powerful tank companion such as Khem Val.

Xalek has the benefit of being able to fill the roles of both a ranged DPS and melee tank quite well. This makes him useful for those who went the Sorcerer or the Assassin route.
